 Millar Power Skating offers premiere power skating instruction for groups of all sizes and abilities across Alberta. Our instruction philosophy is based on error detection and correction methods which have been developed over Britney’s 12 years as a Professional Power Skating Instructor and extensive playing career as a Professional Women’s Hockey Player. Instead of rigid lesson plans, Millar Power Skating reads and reacts to what players need in the moment. We use a combination of drills to assist players with their technique, allowing increased proprioception and overall body awareness.

Skills

Balance – Create body awareness in players and provides information for instructor to see what players are good at and what they need to work on. Warm up muscles and create repetition of movement.

Stopping – Increase speed of deceleration and proper use of skate blade and body movements to insure increased speed out of stop.  Players learn why they stop in a game and how to create efficiency of movement.

Stride – Proper breakdown of biomechanics to increase skater’s awareness of how their body is moving and how it needs to move (increase efficiency and overall speed). Muscle activation and isolation; create new motor patterns and sequence of rotation.

Backwards – Learning a variation of a backwards C-Cut to insure increased efficiency and speed.

Edges – Developing increased proprioception of what is happening at ice level for skaters.

Crossovers – Learning full extension in crossovers (two pushes) inside and outside edges.

Starts – Acceleration (First Step) learning to get up to full speed in four or less movements.

Turns and Transitions – Learn tips and tricks to ensure increased speed.

Lateral Skating and Speed – Creating time and space in game situations, overall increase in speed.
